The Göttweiger Messwein, or Altar wine, has been an institution in this Benedictine monastery, for centuries.
Grüner Veltliner and Rosé (from Zweigelt & Pinot Noir) are vinified as light, dry wines. From the nature-friendly cultivation of the vineyards to the care and processing ofthe grapes and wine, the „Reinheitsgebot”, or purity law,of the church must be obeyed. Messwein cannot be produced without the permission of the bishop, and it must be only natural and unaltered. With 12,0 % alcohol (this may vary, depending on the vintage) Messwein is the lightest wine – very easy and drinkable.
Red fruit - raspberry, wild strawberry, morello cherry –with subtle spice tones. The palate reflects balance between fruit and acidity. A "winy" rosé, fresh and fruity!
Dry, fruity and light with classic – though subtle – Veltliner spice. Animated in the nose; multilayered with notes of citrus fruit, red apple and rosewood. Fresh and elegant on the palate; expressive, with good length.
Messwien Grüner Veltliner, Stift Göttweig
A juicy impression in the nose, yellow apple with delicate nuances of tobacco; great finesse and structure on the palate, green apples supported by mineral notes, densely structured with good potential for maturing.
FURTH Kremstal DAC Grüner Veltliner 2018
Ripe vineyard peaches in the nose, supported by mineral notes with a whiff of lemon zest. Racy and refreshing on the palate, with delicate notes of apricot; very well balanced.
Kremstal DAC Furth Riesling, Stift Göttweig
Fruity and fresh, with notes of ripe apple, banana and honeydew melon, plus slight nuances of fresh hey. The fruity aromas continue on the palate, along with fresh acidity andthe typical Veltliner pepper, or “Pfefferl”, expression. A full, round and creamy Veltliner with a long finish.
