Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the most famous wine of the entire Rhône Valley – the southern wine region of France. The ancient La Nerthe winery from where this wine originates, started its production in 1563. They were one of the first ones to start bottling their wine and perhaps the first one to export it outside of France. Besides La Nerthe's astonishing château, unique vineyards and high-quality wines; the containers for winemaking is another rare trait. They are not classicly made out of wood or stainless steel, but very unique space carved into a local rock massif.
This is one of their elite wines which is produced only in the best years made out of Southern Rhone White Blend (from grapes as Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Rousanne, Viognier, Ugni Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Picpoul). Its colour is darker, spectacular, almost golden. The scent is mature and creamy, distinctively layered, reminding You of ripe pears and caramelized apples, with a touch of sweet spice and refreshing citrus tones. The taste of this wine is dry, full and highly concentrated, rich. It is smooth but with a surprising freshness and acidity in its after tones, making the wine beautifully balanced.
This is a classic, complex wine which can be left to mature for many years. It is best enjoyed when paired with poultry, featherd game and mushrooms.
